Oil Pulling for Tooth and Gum Health
DINACHARYA: Daily intentional self care activities we do each day. These can include showering, brushing teeth, scraping tongue, washing the face, Abhyanga, etc.
One Dinacharya ritual that is used by many people (myself included), is oil pulling. Oil pulling is said to be excellent for promoting tooth and gum health by reducing inflammation, and according to Ayurveda, helps to further clean the mouth by removing impurities.

Any oil can be used for oil pulling, but coconut oil is most popular for it’s taste and it’s high lauric acid content, which has anti-microbial properties.
Organic Ayurveda pulling oil can be found at most wellness shops and drug stores. I recently purchased some at Walgreens. I have also made my own, or used plain, organic coconut oil.
RECIPE
To make your own pulling oil:
1-2 tbsp organic coconut oil, 1 drop of organic oil of oregano or clove, and 1 drop of peppermint oil.
Blend all ingredients together
After scraping tongue, place coconut oil mixture in mouth and swish, pulling between teeth for up to 10 minutes.
•••Do Not Swallow•••
Spit into trashcan when finished (to avoid clogged drains!), rinse mouth, and brush teeth.
